photo by Caleb ParishHi, I’m Anisa Zafer.
I’m a photographer who uses self-portraiture to turn the gaze inward. Taking control of how I am seen, I aim to counter historical, often objectifying depictions of the feminine form.
My work is often described as emotional and intimate. I explore themes that reflect human curiosity, tied to a sense of vulnerability and voyeurism.
Self-portraiture serves as my own form of inner work, allowing me to document personal growth and self-acceptance.
My strengths revolve around building conceptual art that emphasizes storytelling in a raw, unfiltered manner.
My Inspiration:
I’m highly influenced by photographers like Diane Arbus, Francesca Woodman, and Cindy Sherman.
I look to women throughout history who had a commitment to their craft, and persevered despite living in a toxic male dominated world.
I make photographs that teenage me would have cut out and taped to my bedroom wall.
