Character Studies

Exploring and inhabiting the skin of characters

I use intimate character studies to bring imagined,

persona-based characters to life.

Inspiration:

Cindy Sherman, an American photographer, whose work primarily consists of self-portraits, is one of my greatest influences.

She is well known for her conceptual art, where she depicts herself in various contexts and many different imagined characters.

“I’m really just using the mirror to summon something I don’t even know until I see it.”

- Cindy Sherman

Objective:

Utilize photography as a visual brainstorming tool to map out particular characters, by emphasizing their looks, postures, and expressions.

My work often exaggerates clothing, body language, and props to tell a highly specific, fictional story.
