PATHOS

A dramatic portrait series meant to define the reality of depression, where “suffering,” emotional spiraling, and the nature of heartbreak take a physical toll.

The use of the color blue is a visual tool, meant to define melancholy.

Color evokes specific moods. Emotions we feel can alter how we see color.

“Tearful”

Dramatic lighting turns abstract feelings into concrete visual experiences.

“Sorrow”

Pathos is meant to connect with an audience on a human level by triggering certain feelings. Emotions like passion, despair, fear, sadness, longing, and nostalgia are complemented by the use of color and dramatic lighting.

“I’m Crying”

Evoking a strong emotional response through the use of tear drops, camera angle, and facial expression is what makes “Pathos” an intriguing dramatic portrait series.

The use of a single spotlight, creates an intense hard split-lighting pattern, adding to the sorrowful tone and crushing feeling that accompanies deep sadness.

“Anguish

My primary focus was to create images that could instantly persuade the viewer to feel a wave of sadness, attracting a genuine sense of empathy.
